The Mermaid Mask, the new release from the creators of Crow Country, confirms its launch window

The Mermaid Mask, the latest installment in the Detective Grimoire series developed by SFB Games, is scheduled for release this winter for consoles yet to be specified and PC through Steam. The game, which is presented as the direct successor to 2019’s Tangle Tower, will allow players to investigate a murder in the unusual setting of a submerged submarine next to an abandoned fishing village. Those interested can now try the demo to directly experience the first clues of the new research.

Adam Vian, creative director of SFB Games, explained that never before have they dedicated so much effort and attention to one of their projects as with The MermaidMask. However, the development process was temporarily interrupted due to the unexpected success of its previous title, Crow Country, released in 2024. This horror adventure with a retro aesthetic, inspired by the original PlayStation, received praise for its humor and self-irony.

The positive response forced them to divide resources and attention, causing The Mermaid Mask’s development timeline to extend longer than initially planned. For the fan community, this delay seems justifiable given the high level of detail and care promised for the new release.

The Mermaid Mask maintains the characteristic detective approach of the Detective Grimoire series, although, according to its development team, it is created so that new players can fully enjoy the experience without having played previous titles. The story takes place on the submarine Mortuga, where an eccentric captain—surrounded by rumors ranging from immortality to vampirism—is murdered under mysterious circumstances.

Players will have to interrogate various characters, all played by a well-known voice cast, including the returning Edwyn Tiong and Amber Lee Connors in the lead roles of Detective Grimoire and his partner Sally, respectively. The game promises logic challenges, detailed exploration of the scenarios and dialogues full of wit and humor, betting on an independent narrative that offers both depth for regular fans and accessibility for those approaching for the first time.

One of the most notable aspects of The Mermaid Mask is its art, with hand-made 2D animations that bring life and expressiveness to the characters and settings. The story features a notable voice cast, such as Edwyn Tiong and Amber Lee Connors, who have worked on projects such as Demon Slayer, The Outer Worlds 2 and Loco Motive.SFB Games has announced that it will soon reveal new talents involved in the project, which increases expectations among fans of graphic adventures.

Interaction with suspects and solving puzzles require not only logic, but also attention and curiosity, qualities that are part of the franchise’s appeal and that, according to the developers, will reach a new level in this installment. The sum of a detailed script, careful artistic direction and an experienced cast positions The Mermaid Mask among the most anticipated independent releases of the year.
