Sindh Committee Unlocks Millions for Churches and Big Projects

The Sindh Cabinet Finance Committee has decided to release 25 percent of the approved funds for much-needed repair and maintenance work at St Saviour Church in Sukkur and St Thomas Cathedral in Hyderabad.

The decision came during a meeting on Monday, attended by Provincial Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Labour Minister Saeed Ghani, and Home Affairs Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar.

As part of the proceedings, 25 percent of the funding for the Universities and Boards’ non-ADP schemes was also given the green light. Specifically for the church and cathedral projects, a quarter of the Rs219 million budget was approved.

The committee wasn’t just focused on religious and educational spending. They also approved the 7th Karachi Literature Festival and set aside Rs100 million for Sindh Archives in the outside-budget allocation. Infrastructure saw a boost too, with approval for a new three-kilometre link road in Taluka Saeedabad, District Matiari.

Departmental needs were met with Rs102 million approved for vehicle purchases and other requirements in the Home Department. The Planning and Development Department got half of its Rs22 million allocation. Officers in Sindh Local Government, Housing, and Town Planning will benefit from a new training programme.

Further funds included Rs162 million for the ADP Scheme 2024-25 in District Sujawal, and approval for the Sari Ghat Wari Darbar scheme in Shikarpur.
