Shocking Fall at Lahore University Sparks Outcry Over Student Safety

Police are looking into a possible suicide attempt by a 21-year-old female student who was left critically injured after a fall from the fourth floor of the University of Lahore’s campus on Monday.

Investigators say that domestic issues might have played a part in the incident. The student, named Fatima, was studying for a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. This is the second incident within two weeks at the university, both involving students from the same department.

So far, Fatima’s family hasn’t filed any request for legal action. Police have seized all available CCTV recordings related to the case and are reviewing them. Officials said that if any negligence is detected on the part of the university, action will be taken against the administration.

The investigation will move forward after police take Fatima’s statement, they added.

Fatima is currently being treated for severe injuries to her spine and lungs, with police confirming that her medical tests have been re-run and her family has provided information to the authorities.

Sources at the university and local hospitals shared that Fatima survived the fall, but her injuries are serious. She was first given emergency care at the university’s teaching hospital before being moved to a private hospital on Defence Road due to the critical nature of her condition. Doctors have said she is on a ventilator and her condition is still grave.

In response to the incident, the university has suspended all on-campus classes indefinitely, saying student safety is their top concern. The administration announced that classes would now be held online, sealing all entry and exit points as worried students voiced panic across the campus.

University Registrar Ali Aslam said Fatima’s condition had improved and she was out of danger. “She joined the university in September,” he commented.

This latest case has reignited debate over student safety, mental health services, and the university’s responsibility, as both recent incidents involved students from the D-Pharmacy department.

Students on campus are upset and frightened, demanding a thorough independent investigation. Many have called for better mental health resources, proper counselling, and more effective preventive steps to keep students safe.
