Scott Pilgrim EX confirms its release date for March 3

The renowned Scott Pilgrim universe is expanded with the launch of ScottPilgrim EX, the new digital delivery developed by Tribute Games, which will be available on March 3, 2026 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch and PC.

This title opts for action and exploration gameplay with a retro style, and introduces as a main novelty the incorporation of Matthew Patel and Robot-01 as playable characters, adding to an unprecedented adventure signed by Bryan Lee O’Malley.

Tribute Games officially announced that Scott Pilgrim EX will be released digitally on all major platforms on March 3.The studio confirmed the return of two emblematic characters: Matthew Patel, known for his mastery of fire and his ritualistic style, and Robot-01, a creation of the well-known Katayanagi Twins, who will now be playable characters. Both bring new dimensions to the game, both in gameplay and narrative, since their skills and ways of fighting will generate noticeable differences during combat.

Matthew Patel, an old rival of the protagonist, is notable for his ability to summon his demon hipsters and alter the battlefield with remarkable combos and mystical moves powered by fire.On the other hand, Robot-01 adds the technological component to combat: it has air attacks, can transform during fights and uses both close-range attacks and long-range weapons, providing tactical alternatives that expand the options for players.

Scott Pilgrim EX is based on creating elaborate combos and using objects and weapons to develop real-time strategies. The combat system has been designed to encourage both creativity and coordination between members of the cooperative mode, which supports up to four players locally or online, allowing you to enter or leave the game at any time without interrupting the action.

In this installment, the city of Toronto, set in a future 20XX, becomes the scene of a conflict between three factions: vegans, robots and demons. The members of the Sex Bob-omb gang are kidnapped and Scott Pilgrim, along with Ramona Flowers and five other selectable characters, must collaborate to defeat the adversaries and restore order. The approach includes the exploration of a city divided into connected levels, where players will find secondary missions, classic characters and new hidden areas.A badge system allows you to customize and improve fighters’ statistics, incorporating elements of progress and strategy that were not present in the original title.

Bryan Lee O’Malley has pointed out that Scott Pilgrim EX does not constitute a direct sequel nor does it require prior knowledge of the previous installments, although fans will find references and details that enrich the experience. The return of the Anamanaguchi band to compose the new soundtrack increases the nostalgia for those who enjoyed the 2010 game, and at the same time seeks to capture the attention of a new generation of players.

The combination of classic elements with innovations in combat, graphics and music highlights Tribute Games’ strategy of preserving the original essence while updating the franchise for the contemporary digital market. The improved cooperative mode and the option to choose between seven characters seek to encourage group fun and replayability, aspects highly valued by the gaming community today.

With the incorporation of new mechanics, powers and challenges, Scott Pilgrim EX is emerging as an outstanding renewal within the beat ’em up genre and could become an important reference in the 2026 release calendar.
