The alleged killing of a suspect in a so-called ‘fake encounter’ in Rawalpindi has landed local police in court, sparking fresh controversy.
The court is looking into CCTV footage that shows Naeem, also known as Guddu, being arrested directly from his home. This evidence has been brought before the judge in an effort to find out the truth behind his death.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Rawalpindi, Sahibzada Naqeeb Shehzad, has officially notified the police officers reportedly involved in Naeem’s death. According to initial reports, Naeem was taken from his house and later killed in what authorities called an encounter on Chakwal Road.
The judge has now summoned the police officers to give their side of the story after a petition was submitted, requesting a murder case to be registered against them.
The complaint was filed by Naeem’s sister, Asia Bibi. She shared that her brother was arrested alive from their home with dozens of neighbors witnessing the incident, and CCTV footage from the day has been presented as proof. Asia Bibi also accused Inspector Sardar Asim and Inspector Mohsin Shah, along with 15 other personnel, of taking her brother away and later killing him in a staged police shootout on November 30.
The Chakwal district police soon submitted a report to the court, claiming that they had no information about the event and that none of their officers were involved in Naeem’s killing. They stated that Chakwal police were neither briefed about the incident nor played any part in it.
With this report under review, the judge has now issued formal notices to the relevant police officers—including those visible in the CCTV footage—and has called them to appear in court on January 7.
