Four police officers lost their lives in two separate gun attacks that rocked Bannu, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday, sending shockwaves through the region. Security forces quickly cordoned off the affected areas and launched search operations in response to the violence.
According to local police officials, the first incident took place in Lakki Marwat when unidentified men riding motorcycles fired at traffic police on duty. The tragic shooting claimed the lives of Traffic Police In-charge Naurang Jalal Khan and constables Azizullah and Abdullah. The fallen officers were promptly shifted to Naurang Hospital.
Just hours later, another attack occurred in the Kaffshi Khel area, within the jurisdiction of Mandan police station. Police officer Rashid Khan was gunned down by assailants also believed to be on motorcycles.
Earlier, five policemen were injured as security forces fought off a terrorist attack in Bannu, highlighting an ongoing threat in the area.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi strongly condemned the shootings, describing them as “deeply tragic” and expressing admiration for the martyred officers’ dedication. He emphasized that the “cowardly attacks” would not succeed in their goals, and praised the police for bravely standing on the frontline against militancy.
Afridi assured the public that those responsible would be traced, brought to justice, and punished according to the law. Extending condolences to the families of the slain officers, he pledged full support from the provincial government and promised assistance to help the families cope with their loss.
