PM Shehbaz Steps Up: Pledges Pakistan’s Support After Malaysia’s Deadly Floods

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made a direct phone call to Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Friday, reaching out to offer Pakistan’s “full support” after devastating floods hit the country. The call, reported by PTV News, highlighted Pakistan’s willingness to help Malaysia recover from the destruction caused by recent cyclones.

Over the past week, heavy monsoon rains combined with two tropical storms unleashed record-breaking floods across Sri Lanka, along with parts of Indonesia’s Sumatra, southern Thailand, and northern Malaysia. The floods and landslides have been deadly across the region, with the death toll climbing past 1,000.

During the call, PM Shehbaz shared heartfelt condolences, speaking for the people of Pakistan and expressing deep sorrow for the lives lost and the damage caused in Malaysia. “On behalf of the people and government of Pakistan, he extended heartfelt condolences to the Malaysian prime minister for the precious loss of lives and property due to rains, flooding, and massive landslides triggered by the recent storm,” shared PTV News on X.

Shehbaz prayed for a fast recovery for those who were injured or displaced and expressed unwavering solidarity with the Malaysian people. He didn’t just stop at words – he offered “all possible assistance” from Pakistan to support Malaysia’s ongoing rescue and relief efforts. According to PTV News, PM Shehbaz assured his counterpart that Pakistan stands ready to provide any help needed during these challenging times.

In response, Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim thanked Shehbaz for his kind words and support, calling them a testament to the strong, brotherly relationship between Pakistan and Malaysia. He appreciated that Shehbaz reached out personally in this time of crisis.

Pakistan isn’t just helping Malaysia – the country has also stepped up for Sri Lanka, which was battered by Cyclone Ditwah. Over 450 people were killed in Sri Lanka, and Pakistan recently sent an urban search and rescue team by air to assist with relief efforts there.
