Jamie Lee Curtis recalled the depth of her bond with the late Richard Lewis as she commemorated her 27 years of sobriety, noting the pivotal role he played during her recovery process.In a publication posted on Instagram, the 67-year-old actress openly addressed the impact of the comedian, with whom she shared the screen in Anything but Love between 1989 and 1992, while expressing the persistence of her grief and gratitude.

Curtis narrated how Lewis’s help was decisive in one of the most critical moments of his life.”27 years ago, I was in pain and sadness. I extended my hand and my old colleague and friend, Richard Lewis, extended his and took mine,” said Jamie Lee Curtis in her message quoted by Daily Mail.

When referring to her sobriety process, the actress described the value of empathy and human connection for those facing addictions.“The miracle of sobriety is that you only need one other person who relates to what you feel and THAT can change everything,” Curtis continued in his statements reproduced by the same medium.

In addition to providing personal support, Lewis introduced Curtis to recovery networks, expanding his circle of support.“Richard introduced me to many other people and during these 27 years, I have met so many who share our common bond of addiction and recovery from that daily prison,” added the interpreter.

After the death of the actor – which occurred in February 2024 at the age of 76 due to a heart attack in Los Angeles – the actress had already paid tribute to someone she considered a key reference in her life.Curtis, when remembering their shared time on the set of the comedy and their subsequent relationship, declared: “he is the reason I am sober,” as reported in a previous message.

The actress described how Lewis’s act of providing her with guidance proved crucial.“Because Richard helped me, I am forever grateful to him just for that act of generosity,” Curtis said.

Regarding her colleague’s personal life, the actress highlighted her romantic relationship as one of the central axes of her happiness.“He found love with Joyce [Lapinsky] and that, of course, apart from his sobriety, was what mattered most to him,” Curtis said.
