Gas Relief for Homes: Minister Steps Up Checks Amid Winter Crunch

Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik has turned up the heat on gas supply oversight, chairing a key meeting on Monday to tackle ongoing issues with winter load management and consumer complaints nationwide. The session also took a close look at an Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) audit, which reviewed how well service standards for complaint handling are being met.

Top officials from Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) told the minister that, following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directions, they boosted gas supplies for domestic households to help ease the winter burden. SNGPL officials claimed they pumped out 95 million cubic feet more gas per day in December 2025 compared to the previous year, while SSGC increased supply by 32 mmcfd over the same period. The minister welcomed the improvements, noting this winter’s supply was noticeably better than last year.

The meeting learned that advanced IoT-based monitoring and Town Border systems are now in place at the far ends of the gas pipeline network to automatically trigger alarms if pressure drops. Applauding the technology, the minister told SSGC to continue upgrading its pressure management and alarm systems, especially in hard-to-reach areas, to ensure quick responses and steady supply.

Ali Pervaiz Malik urged both Sui companies to keep gas pressure stable and maintain reliable service for households through the cold months. During the session, OGRA revealed audit results showing impressive complaint resolution rates—98.5% at SNGPL and 97% at SSGC.
