A night meant for celebration ended in heartbreak for a New Karachi family after a teenage boy was shot dead during a mobile phone snatching incident on Monday.
The shocking crime happened near Rizwan Mosque in Sector 5-L, where armed robbers on a motorcycle targeted 18-year-old Saad Javed. According to police, the attackers fired at Saad during a mugging attempt, killing him instantly. His body was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital by an Edhi ambulance, where doctors confirmed his death.
SHO Bilal Colony Anwar reported that Saad had been standing in the street near his home when the robbers tried to steal his belongings. Saad resisted and desperately tried to protect his mobile phone, which he had bought on instalments. The robbers responded with gunfire, and Saad succumbed to his injuries before any help could reach him.
Police said the assailants fled after the attack, making off with Saad’s phone. Investigators collected evidence from the location and are working to track down and apprehend the culprits.
At the hospital, Saad’s father spoke to media and described how a family celebration turned into tragedy. The family had been hosting an engagement reception for Saad’s elder brother at the time of the shooting.
