Apple launches its new AirTag: price, features and how to buy this tracker

Apple this week announced the launch of the new generation of its personal tracker, AirTag, with substantial improvements in accuracy, audio power and environmental sustainability.

The device can now be reserved through apple.com and the official Apple Store application, with a price of 35 euros in its individual version and in packages of four for 119 euros. The company reported that the new locator will be available in the brand’s physical stores starting at the end of the week.

The AirTag update maintains the original size to ensure compatibility with previous accessories, but introduces a key technological advance with the addition of a second-generation ultra-wideband chip.

As detailed by Apple in its statement, the tracker allows you to locate lost objects with greater accuracy and an expanded range, while reinforcing its environmental policy with the use of recycled materials in its manufacturing.

The second generation of the AirTag incorporates a cutting-edge ultra-wideband chip, already present in devices such as the iPhone 17 and the Apple Watch Ultra3.

This component allows the ‘Precision Search’ function to guide users to their belongings from up to 50 percent further away compared to the previous model. The system uses visual cues, vibration and audio alerts for a more efficient location experience.

Another improvement lies in the integrated speaker. The new AirTag emits sounds with a power increased by 50 percent compared to the original version, making it easier to recover objects in noisy or large environments.

This feature responds to requests from users who demanded greater hearing ability to identify the tracker from a greater distance.

Apple’s environmental policy gains prominence in the new generation of the AirTag.The device’s casing uses 85 percent recycled plastics, while the magnets are made entirely from reused rare earth elements and the circuit boards use reclaimed gold.

This approach represents an advance in the company’s sustainability strategy, aligned with its objectives of reducing the environmental footprint in hardware production.

In addition to materials, the company remains committed to minimizing waste by keeping the design and size compatible with existing accessories. Thus, users can continue using previously purchased keychains and covers.

The new AirTag operates within Apple’s ‘Find’ network, where Apple devices collaborate to locate objects using Bluetooth technology, without storing location data or history on physical servers. The system uses end-to-end encryption to safeguard user privacy.

A notable feature is the ability to share the location of the AirTag securely and temporarily with third parties, useful for situations such as tracking luggage during a trip.

Additionally, the tracker includes alerts that prevent unauthorized tracking on both iOS and Android devices, and frequently changes its Bluetooth identifiers to hinder malicious tracking attempts.

The AirTag was designed to help locate frequently lost valuable personal items, such as keys, backpacks, wallets or suitcases.

In addition to personal use, the AirTag is used in everyday and professional situations.People who travel frequently can place the tracker on their luggage to receive immediate alerts if their belongings become separated or to share the location of a suitcase with family or colleagues.

It can be useful for monitoring work objects, such as devices, or for ensuring that important items always remain reachable within work spaces.
