The export performance occurred in a context of strengthening the economic link between both countries. This Wednesday, February 5, the signing of the bilateral agreement was completed, which had been announced in November 2025. According to the Foreign Ministry, it is the first instrument of its kind in the region that incorporates specific commitments regarding investments.

In parallel with the export record, the total trade exchange between both countries was the second highest in the historical series, while the bilateral surplus reached maximum values.During 2025, the United States remained the third destination for Argentine exports and the third origin of imports, behind Brazil and China.

This change in the composition of external sales marked a turning point in the bilateral trade relationship, with a greater weight of energy products within the export flow. The performance of the sector made it possible to compensate for other areas with less dynamism and consolidate the historical record in absolute values.
The signing of the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade and Investment is part of this scenario. As highlighted by the Foreign Ministry in its official statement, the understanding contemplates the elimination of reciprocal tariffs for 1,675 products, which aims to improve the conditions of access to the US market and expand the volume of Argentine exports. In the same framework, Argentina assumed the commitment to eliminate import licenses or apply automatic licenses for products coming from the United States.
The Government indicated that the agreement is not limited to the exchange of goods.“The understanding incorporates commitments that cover trade in goods, investments and new disciplines linked to digital trade,” the Foreign Ministry indicated when announcing the signing. In this sense, the text provides a framework for operations linked to startups, fintechs and technology companies, with the aim of facilitating transactions and investment in these sectors.
Another of the axes of the agreement is linked to financing.Through organizations such as Eximbank and the United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), US investment projects will be sought to be supported in sectors considered strategic for Argentina, in coordination with the North American private sector.
In parallel to the trade agreement, both countries signed the Strategic Framework to strengthen supply chains in critical minerals. This instrument establishes, among other points, the commitment to jointly identify priority projects and facilitate their financing within a period of six months.

The set of these data shows that the historical record of exports to the United States was not an isolated event, but rather occurred within a framework of greater economic integration and strengthening of trade and investment flows.Prior to the entry into force of the new bilateral agreement, the export performance of 2025 left maximum figures both in values and in sector participation, with energy and mining as protagonists of the commercial link between both countries.
