How much will electricity and gas rates increase in February after the reduction of subsidies

The Government reported what the average rate increases will be in February and the impact they will have on electricity and gas bills, after the application of the new targeted subsidy scheme and the adjustment determined to avoid delays.

The Ministry of Energy assured that the causes of these increases are the following:

“The aim is to give predictability to the user so that in the months where they most need to consume gas (winter) the price does not skyrocket. This way, seasonal shocks on the bill are avoided throughout the year,” said the portfolio in charge of María Tettamanti.

In turn, they gave examples of gas increases in large urban centers:

It is worth remembering that the expenditure on public services in the AMBA for a user without subsidies was $192,665 in January, according to the report prepared by the Interdisciplinary Institute of Economics and Politics (UBA-Conicet).

This basket was made up of a monthly expense of $50,611 on the electricity bill and $22,883 on gas for an N1 user (without subsidies), in addition to an average bill of $33,733 for water service and a monthly cost of $85,438 for the use of public transportation for a typical family.

The Government launched the new Targeted Energy Subsidies System (SEF), which completely redefines the rate assistance scheme and leaves the segmentation by levels N1, N2 and N3, as well as the Social Gas Rate as differentiated regimes, ineffective. From now on, the system establishes only two categories: households with subsidy and households without subsidy, according to income, wealth and socioeconomic condition.

Under this new scheme, households that are beneficiaries receive a direct bonus on the value of the energy, while those that do not qualify pay the full cost of the service. The main eligibility criterion is set at family income equal to or less than three Total Basic Baskets, along with the evaluation of specific assumptions of vulnerability.

To implement the new regime, the Decree creates the Registry of Targeted Energy Subsidies (ReSEF), which replaces the Registry of Access to Energy Subsidies (RASE).People who were already registered do not have to register again: their data is migrated automatically and they can update their Affidavit and consult their situation through the Procedures option of My Argentina.

With the SEF, the segmentation by levels N1, N2 and N3 is left without effect, as well as the Social Gas Rate as differentiated regimes (Canva)

The new regime also integrates users of indiluted propane gas through networks and the beneficiaries of the former Home Program, who now receive the subsidy under homogeneous rules. In this case, users have a period of six months to register with the SEF, a period during which continuity of assistance is guaranteed while the migration is completed.Once this process is completed, the Home Program is deregistered and the beneficiaries become part of the general regime of targeted energy subsidies.
