Another textile company in crisis due to imports: 140 layoffs and salary payments in installments

In a context of crisis in the textile sector, amid the opening of imports from China and the drop in consumption, another company added difficulties. The firm Eseka S.A., which manufactures for the lingerie brands Cocot and Dufour, faces a conflict due to the dismissal of 140 employees in the last two months and installment payments of salaries.

At the door of the plant located in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Parque Chas, there were moments of tension, with police intervention, due to the protests generated by the company’s decision to pay salaries, bonuses and vacations in installments. They assure that this occurs despite the fact that the production lines remain operational 24 hours a day.

Infobae contacted the firm, which preferred not to comment on the situation.

Workers reported that salaries are close to $700,000 per nine-hour shift. The main demand is the urgent regularization of payments and the protection of the national industry.

This is not an isolated case considering the situation of the textile industry. According to data from the Federation of Argentine Textile Industries (FITA), last September the textile, clothing, leather and footwear sectors registered 105,000 formal jobs.

In this way, since December 2023, the accumulated loss exceeded 16,000 jobs.
